Georgia Legal Community Reaffirms Commitment to the Rule of Law on Law Day 2026

On May 1, 2026, members of Georgia’s legal community gathered at the Nathan Deal Judicial Center for a meaningful Law Day ceremony centered on one of the profession’s most enduring commitments: the oath to uphold the Constitution and serve the cause of justice.

Hosted in the courtroom of the Supreme Court of Georgia, the ceremony brought together attorneys, bar leaders, and members of the judiciary for a collective recommitment to the principles that define the legal profession. During the program, Justice Charles J. Bethel administered the oath of admission, as attending attorneys stood to reaffirm their dedication to ethical conduct and the rule of law.

Remarks were delivered by Christopher P. Twyman, Veronica R. Cox, and Walter Jospin, each emphasizing the responsibility lawyers carry in safeguarding democratic institutions and maintaining public trust in the legal system.

Law Day, observed annually on May 1, is a national recognition of the role the rule of law plays in the foundation of American democracy. This year’s ceremony served not only as a reflection on that legacy, but also as a call to action.

In a time when foundational principles are being tested, the act of retaking the oath is more than symbolic—it is a public reaffirmation of the profession’s duty to stand firm in defense of justice, accountability, and constitutional governance.

The rule of law is not an abstract ideal. It is the framework that protects individual rights, ensures fairness, and sustains the integrity of our institutions. It is what allows communities to trust that justice is not out of reach, but guaranteed through a system built on principle and upheld by those sworn to serve it.

Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law is proud to stand alongside the State Bar of Georgia and the Supreme Court in fostering that commitment.

If you were unable to attend—or would like to revisit the program—we invite you to view the event recording and photos and reflect on the shared responsibility that continues to guide the legal profession forward.
