Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law Opposes the Nomination of Todd Blanche to Be Attorney General of the United States
At GLRL, we believe the Department of Justice is in crisis because of numerous threats to its institutional integrity. Over the course of the past year, we have expressed our deep concern about these threats, including the loss of independence of the Department of Justice. In this regard, please see our previous articles about the DOJ at The Administration’s $1.776 Billion Anti-Weaponization Fund Has No Basis In The Law and Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law Opposes the DOJ Ethics Rule and The Independence and Impartiality of the Department of Justice is Threatened by Partisan Politics
Todd Blanche has been nominated to be the Attorney General of the United States. We believe that he has demonstrated in many respects that he is unfit to hold the position. When asked this week by Republican Louisiana Senator John Kennedy if he considered President Trump to be his friend, Blanche replied “I’m his lawyer … was his lawyer.” That verbal slip says it all; Todd Blanche thinks his job is to do the bidding of the President. That mindset has led to a series of ethical compromises for Mr. Blanche, ranging from seeking questionable indictments of the President’s political adversaries to the ethically questionable attempt to create a $1.8 billion slush fund with taxpayer money coupled with a blanket immunity from tax investigations for the President, his family, and his companies. We invite you to view this video opposing Mr. Blanche’s nomination by a former federal prosecutor of January 6th rioters and a former Capitol police officer who was attacked and seriously injured by the rioters.
