Elections in Georgia: Why They Can Be Trusted
The nationalizing of state elections is contrary to the U.S. Constitution and poses a significant threat to foundations of the rule of law.
President Trump has stated that the U.S. election system is riddled with fraud and that significant numbers of undocumented immigrants are voting illegally—yet despite numerous court challenges to the 2020 election results, no evidence of fraud has been produced. This week, the President suggested “nationalizing” elections in 15 states. This would be an unprecedented federal intrusion into state affairs. It would also be “fixing” a problem that doesn’t exist.
Georgia’s election system contains numerous safeguards to prevent wholesale vote manipulation. In this piece, former University of Georgia law professor, Al Pearson, explains what they are—a list that includes paper ballots, rigorous audits, and bipartisan oversight that repeatedly confirm accurate results.
