Lawyers, Legal Professionals & Organizations — Your Voice Is Needed TODAY
The deadline to submit public comments on the DOJ’s proposed ethics rule (OAG199 / Docket DOJ-OAG-2026-0001) is 11:59 PM ET tonight, April 6, 2026.
This rule would allow the Department of Justice to review — and potentially block — state bar ethics investigations of its own attorneys before state authorities can act. It strikes at the heart of independent state bar regulation and the rule of law.
Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law (GLRL) has proudly submitted its formal comments in strong opposition.
We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other prestigious organizations that have already weighed in, including:
- The Supreme Court of Georgia (read their comment here)
- The American College of Trial Lawyers
- and several other leading voices in the profession
Now it’s your turn.
If you are a lawyer, legal professional, or represent a legal organization, we strongly encourage you to review the proposal and submit your comments before the clock runs out tonight.
No attorney — not even those serving at the DOJ — should be placed above the ethical standards that govern the rest of the bar.
Let’s protect the independence of state disciplinary systems and defend the rule of law.
